Scrapbook, 1852-1935.

The scrapbook includes newspaper clippings, photographs, United Confederate Veterans memorabilia, correspondence, slave bills of sale, etc. Information relating to the Civil War, Civil War flags, the U.C.V., Civil War reunions, and the Spanish American War is included. Of particular interest are photographs of Jefferson Davis and Emma Sansom, as well as Ft. Sumter, S.C. in the 1890s and Ft. Pickens, Fla. in the 1880s. Material is also included that relates to Joseph Wheeler and Winnie Davis, daughter of Jefferson Davis. Original Civil War documents are also present.

Allen Christopher Oxford was born in Aliceville, Ala., ca. 1835. During the Civil War he served with the 8th Confederate Cavalry Regiment for General Joseph Wheeler's Cavalry Division. Following the War, Oxford was a professional photographer and worked in Macon, Ga. and Birmingham, Ala. Oxford was active in the United Confederate Veterans.
